French Onion Soup

3 tbsp butter
5 cups thinly sliced onions
2 cloves garlic, minced
½ tsp each salt and granulated sugar
3 tbsp flour
6 cups beef flavoured stock
½ cup white wine
Salt and Pepper to taste
1 cup cheddar cheese

In a large pot over medium heat, melt butter. Add onions, garlic, salt and sugar. Cook for about thirty minutes, or until onions are golden brown.

Stir in flour. Add beef stock and wine. Reduce heat and simmer for about 30 minutes.

Add salt and pepper to taste.

Top with cheese once in individual bowls.

French bread can be added to the bottom of the bowl if desired.

You can also top with whole grain croutons.
